We have an exciting opportunity for a Global Tax Director to join our growing Finance team. The Director of Tax will report directly to the CFO and VP of Finance. The Director will provide tax leadership to the Company globally, including setting the vision for tax structuring and working with management to align tax strategy with the Company’s overall long-term growth strategy. The Tax Director will be a senior member of the Corporate Finance leadership team as well as an in-house consultant for management, proactively providing tax advice where needed and having an impact on the Company’s effective tax rate and income taxes paid. Oversees all aspects of reporting, planning and compliance of all Corporate federal, state and international taxation. Specific areas include final review of federal and state tax returns, effective tax rate development, domestic & international tax planning & monitoring pending tax-related legislation & IRS pronouncements. Ensures timely and accurate filing of required tax returns and other external governmental reports. Researches methods and recommends ways to minimize corporate tax through use and expert interpretation of tax laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Provides the vision for tax structuring for the Company, using outside experts where needed.
- Assesses and proactively changes tax structure as the Company grows and changes its structure.
- Leads the development of a strategic tax plan in order to maximize the Company’s business/profit objectives, and oversees the implementation of this plan globally.
- Directs, develops and implements systems to plan and compile information in order to comply with various federal, state, local, and/or foreign tax laws & regulations.
- Directs and controls the activities and development of the Tax Staff.
- Directs planning, staffing, budgeting, and manages expenses for the tax department.
- Provides counsel and recommendations to Company executives and managers on the tax implications related to significant operational or strategic decisions via a collaborative environment.
- Provides education to Company executives and managers on current tax laws, and how they affect the Company’s profitability, in the countries the Company operates.
- Researches tax laws (foreign & domestic) and directs company activity related to tax implications of projects, programs & people.
- Responsible for representing the Company on matters with governmental agencies such as on income tax audits (federal, state, local, and foreign).
- Manages and maintains relations with external tax advisors, including setting their budgets and holding them accountable.
- Participates on due diligence teams investigating potential targets for acquisition, including assessing target company’s current tax situation, and also providing counsel on how target company should fit into the Company’s tax structure upon acquisition.
- Transparent in communication with the Finance Management team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Tax Accounting. Master’s degree in Taxation or J.D. in Tax Law preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant preferred.
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in U.S. (multi-state) and International Tax.
- Minimum of 5 years of managing associates directly or indirectly to include coaching, mentoring, advising, hiring, performance management/feedback, etc
- Extensive knowledge of tax accounting and reporting.
- Advanced knowledge of tax research tools and software.
- Previous experience working with other senior executives in establishing strategic plans and objectives.
- Able to make final decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensures objectives are achieved.
- Demonstrated ability of working on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth knowledge of the company.
- Past interaction with executives involving negotiation or attempting to influence senior level leaders regarding matters of significance to the organization.
- Past experience of having overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and recommending, and implementing change.
- 5% travel required.
